Learn More About The Minority Business Accelerator Program

The Minority Business Accelerator Program is an initiative started by the Greenville Chamber and is designed to advance economic inclusion for minorities. It was established to drive positive community economic impact and make Upstate SC one of the most inclusive business communities in the world. Its focus is to grow the economic success of disadvantaged businesses through services, mentoring, technical assistance, and access to large corporations for partnership opportunities. This program helps minority-owned, woman-owned, and veteran-owned businesses find opportunities to successfully compete in the Upstate SC market, and strengthen the regional minority entrepreneurial community.

It uses a two-pronged strategy to deliver on its mission. The first prone is to improve the readiness of local Minority Business Enterprises. The second is to engage the corporate community to more effectively utilize these businesses through local supplier diversity efforts. Both are essential for improving the overall economic base of Upstate SC.

Spencer Pest Services has been a locally operated business since 1954. When Bill Spencer’s daughter Sheri took the reigns in 2005, it became a woman-owned and operated business. And, that status continued in 2012, when Sheri’s daughter Laura Corbin took charge of operations. And it has continued to this day.

While running a woman-owned business has its challenges, it has also given Spencer Pest Services a unique perspective. As a busy parent and homeowner, Laura understands the time constraints of home ownership and the concerns parents have for kids, pets, and eco-friendly pest solutions. And, as a family business, we don’t act like a big franchise. We’re not focused on expansion, we’re about quality of service and customer care. This unique, locally operated, family-focused business model, with all of its challenges, can benefit from what The Minority Business Accelerator Program offers. So it seemed appropriate to Laura to enroll in the 2018 class, which starts in January of 2018 and runs through December of 2018.
