Whether you are building a new home or commercial building, or you have an existing structure with a crawl space, moisture control is the key to improving your air quality and reducing your energy bills. Crawl spaces are naturally damp, just like the ground around your home, and the excess moisture can cause mold, mildew, or provide an enticing area for moisture-loving pests to live. Mold and mildew can cause breathing problems and trigger or cause asthma symptoms in some individuals, so reducing moisture in your home is necessary to keep your family comfortable.
How Does Moisture Control Work?
A barrier is applied to the interior of your crawl space to prevent moisture from getting into your home. The more you cover your crawl space, the more effective your moisture control will be.
In addition to interior barrier methods of moisture control, you can also take steps to redirect water from the exterior of your structure.
Spencer Pest Services Moisture Control
Spencer Pest Services has three options of moisture control with varying levels of barrier protection. Our Full Enclosed Crawl Space with CrawlSpace Care® solution provides the most protection against moisture. We wrap your floor in 8, 12, or 20 mil reinforced white plastic, and we wrap the walls and piers with a clear, 6 mil reinforced plastic. Everything is completely sealed to the foundation walls and piers with heavy foam. This service also provides:
High water alarm
Microbe treatment of soil
Our Vapor Barrier Plus moisture service is the next best thing, featuring the same plastic liner options to cover 100% of the floor but no foam sealing of the walls and piers. We treat the soil for microbes, seal vents, and install a dehumidifier.
Finally, our third option for moisture control is our Moisture Barrier and Vents program. With this service, we install auto vents that open and shut based on the exterior temperature and 80% minimum coverage of the crawl space with 6 mil clear plastic.
Regardless of which level of moisture control you decide to go with, you will have noticeably cleaner air quality and can feel confident your structure is protected from excess moisture.
